Passing Outside Tips

Feb 6, 2023 | Networking Tips

PRESENTING TIPS DURING THE WEEKLY MEETING – BUILD UP THE EXCITEMENT WITH GREAT STORIES!

What could be more exciting in a weekly meeting than presenting a new Outside Tip?

Each week meetings go through the motions of organizing, networking and pitching your business to your fellow members. You pass tips around the table or review them online. This is all great and is a useful part of the meeting, but are you taking full advantage of getting the members excited about the new outside tip you are passing this week? If not, hold onto your horses, because we want to pump you up about the importance of this process.

Outside Tips are the lifeblood of networking groups. The 30 or 40 members in your group can use each other’s services all year long and all that ends up happening is that you push money around the table. Your chapters goals should be to pass 80% of tips as Outside Tips. This is fresh money coming into your pockets and growing your businesses!

The key is to mulTIPly each outside Tip.

How do you do that? Its all about the story. No outside Tip should pass to another member without there being a story in the detail section.

No one needs to buy a house.

No one needs to hire a bookkeeper.

No one needs to go to a chiropractor.

What people need is the story.

Story Examples:

Basic: My friend Jon needs to talk to a real estate agent about looking for a new home.

Improved: My friend Jon, who has been married 3 years and has a two-year-old boy and a new baby girl on the way wants to look into buying a home in the South Peterson area where he works for a printing company. Jon has never bought a house before and currently lives in an apartment near North Peterson and Humble.

Why is this better? There are 6+ members of your group who may want to ask for an introduction to Jon besides the Residential Real Estate member now. Jon may need a mortgage broker, a Property and Casualty Insurance agent, a Life Health and Disability insurance agent for his expanding family, possibly a Will and Trust attorney, a Moving company, etc…

Great: My friend Jon, who has been married 3 years and has a two-year-old boy and a new baby girl on the way wants to look into buying a home in the South Peterson area where he works for a printing company. Jon and his wife are looking to work with a Real Estate agent, who lives in that area, and will feel comfortable suggesting Dr’s for their son, and newborn baby, and his wife who will be giving birth in their new house. Your area knowledge and relationships are so valuable to them, especially right now. Knowledge of school districts are also so important. The more people the real Estate Agent knows either from their own personal experience or from other clients they placed in this area the better this connection/ relationship will be. Jon has never bought a house before, so contactors, mechanics, restaurants, would all be a big help, especially because Jon and his young family are currently living in an apartment near North Peterson and Humble.

What makes this great is the tipper is telling you and allowing you to share your experiences and contacts you or your clients use. The more connections the member can make, and the more common threads you have with the potential lead/client the better the experience both member and client will have, yielding a better outcome and longer lasting relationship. This will yield more referrals from the client to the member. It’s OK to sometimes be a little nosey and ask a few more questions. Both the lead and member will be happy you did!

Now that is something to get excited about and get the energy of your chapter meeting hitting new levels in 2023!
